Kitchen Update – Sandy Dick

‘Twas a bright and shiny Tuesday morning in Tacoma – temperatures were forecast to climb into the 80’s, but the team was undeterred. The job called, and Demolition Dames (and one Dude) headed to the kitchen of St. Andrew’s to complete their assignment. A ladder was set up, large bins were produced, and the work began.

In short order the following was accomplished:
• Emptying the large storage closet on the East Wall.
• Sorting the silverware drawer, and putting the “good” utensils back in the Hospitality Closet.
• Drawers were cleared out, and items sorted by use.
• Towels, pot holders, pots and pans were all sorted and “binned.”
• Island storage of large cooking pots, pans, lids and sheets was sorted, binned, and those items that were not usable on the new ranges went to Habitat for Humanity.
• Bits and pieces of former kitchen equipment were sent off to Goodwill where happy hands received them for re -use.
• Drawers of kitchen knives, spoons, spatulas, tongs, etc. were sorted and binned.
• Glassware and serving dishes await in quiet for the arrival of the “Dish Dolly” so they can be rolled into the Temporary storage room (Howe Youth Room).
By late afternoon, the kitchen was cleared, cleaned and the crew departed. Quiet descended on Puddicomb Hall, broken only by the hum of the refrigerator.

“Breaking News”

With the upgrade to a new type of range (induction cook tops, regular ovens) there is the need for cookware that is safe to use with the induction cook tops. Parishioners are encouraged to help defray the cost of these special pots, pans and skillets. Please know that ANY amount will be acceptable — empty your change jars, rob the piggy bank, and put those dimes found in the laundry to good use! We need your help…
